To Blog a Ride

I set up this blog in order in order to share my experience on a cycling tour of the West Coast. After seven years as Senior Pastor of Our Savior Lutheran Church the congregation has granted me a three month sabbatical this summer. During that time I plan to ride my bike from Canada to Mexico along the Pacific Coast. I expect it to be a serious physical challenge, and a time of great spiritual insight. My support will be provided by the same wonderful woman who has supported and encouraged me in my life and ministry for most of my life, my wife Diana. She will drive along with me, carrying clothing, gear, snacks, spare tubes and tires, and a spare bike in our minivan. I am confident that my heavenly Father will be along to protect me, that Christ will be along to give me strength, and that the Holy Spirit will be along to teach me and give me insights into life, God's creation, his Word and how to ride your bike from 75 to 100 miles for 21 days in a row. The good people of Our Savior have pledged money for each mile that I ride in support of Ride4Us and CareNet Crisis Pregnancy Centers of Pierce County, Washington. This will be my incentive to keep going when I'm tired or lazy. I hope that as you read along on this ride you will grow in your faith, and enjoy the trip with me. I may post a few more times before the ride begins, but my first day on the bike will be June 9, 2008. See you then.

I wish you only the best on this journey! Marybeth let me know about this blog today. That type of ride is something I've been wanting to do for quite some time now. But, while you are doing that ride, I will be in Africa, helping some missionary friends of mine.

God's blessings!
